There are moments I agree with Socrates and some in which I agree with Gorgias and Callicles. Whatever my inclination, it's always food for thought. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Kevin -- The "knack" of rhetoric : This is a strange dialogue due to the hostility shown by Plato toward the rhetoricians (and sophists). The dialogue discusses both the proper aim of rhetoric and its role in the good State. Further, Socrates also talks about justice, virtue, and the Good, and many parallels can be drawn between this work and Republic. Be sure to have read Apology and Phaedo to understand the irony of the end of the dialogue, and Meno is also good to have already read due to its discussion on whether virtue can be taught. Overall, the dialogue is interesting albeit longer than necessary. It is strange to see such passion in one of the dialogues. ( Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2013 )

Sie in Bezug auf Platons Höhlengleichnis in einer Höhle unter der platonischen lebe,wohl eine Art Pflichtlektüre.man sollte sich nicht durch die "unzeitgemäße" Sprache abschrecken lassen. Im Vergleich zu manch neuzeitlicher Schrift ist sie doch gradlinieger. Hier werden Fragen behandelt in einer Weise die selbst uns denen schon jede Revolution bekannt zu sein scheint einen gehörigen Schreck einjagen kann. Dem komplizierten, verklausulierten Stil so manches Denkers unserer Zeit liegt wohl häufig nur der Versuch über die Inhaltslosigkeit hinwegzutäuschen zu Gründe. Niemand sollte vergessen das eine einfach dreiwortige Aufforderung für einen Mann zu einer lebenslangen Auseinandersetzung mit derselben führte die in seine Hinrichtung mündete. Ein einzelner stellte Fragen, die Mehrheit stimmte ab und entschied auf Tod. Wenn man Sprengstoff sucht, versuche man nur Gorgas zu verstehen. ( Reviewed in Germany on March 30, 2014 )

Maybe my issue is with kindle but here is my thoughts, why not allow students to copy parts of it for note-taking, it is disappointing when I can't copy a page when I paid for the book.
